LongHorn Gluten-Free Dining Guide

Eat safely with celiac disease or gluten sensitivity. Explore gluten-free steaks, appetizers, salad options, sides, and cross-contamination warnings.

Dining Out with Gluten Sensitivity

For guests with celiac disease, wheat allergies, or non-celiac gluten sensitivity, dining out can be a stressful experience. Fortunately, steakhouses are inherently very accommodating to gluten-free lifestyles because whole cuts of beef, chicken, fish, and simple vegetable sides are naturally gluten-free.

LongHorn Steakhouse provides a Gluten-Sensitive Menu showing options that do not contain wheat, barley, rye, or oats. In this guide, we detail these safe menu options and offer crucial warnings about kitchen cross-contamination.

Gluten-Free Steaks & Entrees

Almost all fire-grilled steaks at LongHorn are naturally gluten-free, including their signature seasonings. LongHorn's proprietary Prairie Dust seasoning is gluten-free. Always let your server know you are ordering from the gluten-sensitive menu to prevent cross-contamination on the grill.

Safe Steak Selections:

  • Flo's Filet® (6 oz & 9 oz)
  • Outlaw Ribeye® (20 oz bone-in)
  • Renegade Sirloin (6 oz & 8 oz)
  • The LongHorn® Porterhouse (22 oz)
  • Ribeye (12 oz)
  • New York Strip (12 oz)
  • Fire-Grilled T-Bone (18 oz)

Other Safe Entrees:

  • Lemon Garlic Chicken: Grilled herby chicken breast.
  • LongHorn Salmon: Grilled salmon brushed with oil and light herbs.
  • Redrock Grilled Shrimp: Skewered grilled shrimp. (Be sure to request no rice pilaf side; request broccoli or asparagus).
  • Baby Back Ribs: Brushed with sweet BBQ sauce (which is gluten-free).

Gluten-Free Sides & Salad Customizations

Standard sides are simple to navigate. Steamed broccoli, fresh asparagus, and mashed potatoes are gluten-free. Baked potatoes and sweet potatoes are safe, but verify that the potato skins are not coated in flour (a trick sometimes used in kitchens to absorb moisture).

Safe Salad Dressings:

  • White Balsamic Vinaigrette
  • Creamy Caesar
  • Blue Cheese
  • Honey Mustard
  • Ranch
  • Oil & Vinegar

⚠️ Crucial Salad Warning: Always explicitly order your salad with **NO CROUTONS**. If croutons are accidentally added and then picked off, the salad is contaminated and must be remade.

High-Risk Items & Cross-Contamination

Many items that seem gluten-free are actually highly contaminated due to shared cooking mediums:

  • French Fries: Cooked in the same fryer oil as breaded appetizers (Texas Tonion, Wings, Chicken Tenders). **Not safe for celiac.**
  • Appetizers: The White Cheddar Stuffed Mushrooms contain wheat flour in their cheese stuffing mixture. The Spinach Dip is gluten-free, but it is served with tortilla chips that may be cooked in a shared fryer. Request it with carrot sticks or cucumber slices instead of chips.
  • Soups: Most contain wheat flour as a thickener. Avoid loaded potato soup and French onion soup.

Frequently Asked Questions

No, LongHorn Steakhouse french fries are cooked in a shared fryer that also processes breaded items like chicken tenders and Texas Tonions. Therefore, they are not safe for people with celiac disease or severe gluten allergies.
LongHorn Steakhouse does not currently offer a gluten-free bread option. The complimentary table bread contains wheat and is not safe for gluten-sensitive guests.
Gluten-free dressing options include White Balsamic Vinaigrette, Creamy Caesar, Blue Cheese, and Honey Mustard. Be sure to request the salad without croutons.

Allergen Disclaimer

LongHorn Steakhouse uses the term "Gluten-Sensitive" rather than "Gluten-Free" because their kitchens are shared and cross-contact can occur during prep, grilling, or cooking. If you have severe celiac disease or a life-threatening wheat allergy, please speak directly to the manager on duty so they can implement extra safety protocols (such as cleaning the grill or using fresh utensils).
